Background Paul is an environmental/analytical chemist whose research focus is on the use of sorption & photocatalytic techniques to study fate/remediation of environmentally toxic chemical substances with a special focus on soil & water. He is currently exploring the complex interplay between soil & microplastics in the mobility of pesticides from soils to crops, and using photocatalysts-doped porous materials for treating organics in drinking water. He was awarded the CAS-TWAS PhD fellowship in Beijing (China) for his PhD, and later a post-doctoral fellowship at Vaal University of Technology (South Africa) where he further worked (teaching/research) for 3 years before moving to Justus Liebig University (Germany) for the (Alexander von Humboldt) Georg Forster experienced research fellowship. He is an Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung fellow
